Shannon was a four-year member of the men's basketball team, including the 1997-98 and 1998-99 squads that won the SLIAC regular season title and the 1997-98 team won the SLIAC conference tournament crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, which marked the program's first appearance.
He was a two-time SLIAC Player of the Year, a three-time First-team All-SLIAC selection and led the SLIAC in scoring all four years. Shannon was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year (1995-96) and was inducted to the SLIAC Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a three-time All-American. Among Maryville's career leaders, he ranks in the top ten in ten categories. In addition, he holds five single season records and six true freshman records.
