She was an outstanding basketball player as well as track athlete and competed in the high jump. She won the National Indoor High Jump Award in 1936 and competed for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. She was the first woman to do the scissors high jump. She was also offered a position on professional women's basketball team.
