Maryville wrestling competed in its first dual meet of the season in Indianapolis. Saints traveled to University of Indianapolis for a two-day tournament which consisted of 25 Division II opponents. The Saints placed sixth overall with 68.5 total points and posted an overall record of 18-12.
Senior Brett Rosedale (165 pounds) led the way with a second-place finish and reached the championship match. Rosedale, ranked fifth in Division II, fought hard both days before falling just short 4-3 to two-time All American Mike Williams from North Carolina-Pembroke. One of the many highlights for Rosedale was his overtime win against Mason True (Findlay), when he leapt over True's shot and recorded the winning take down.
After day one, Maryville was fourth overall with four wrestlers set for the semifinals on day two. In the 125-pound weight class, Terrell McKinney (Omaha, Neb.) won his first match by decision before sustaining an injury in the second that would take him out of the tournament. Brandon Oshiro (133 lb.) finished with an overall record of 2-2 and was the spark the Saints needed. Brandon's third match was the start of a five-match winning streak at the end of day one that jump-started the Saints twelve spots to fourth place.
Freshman Keenan Hagerty (149 lb.) had one of the most exciting matches of the tournament when he faced fifth-ranked Deral Brown of Newberry University. Keenan trailed 3-2 before flipping around Brown for a takedown with no time remaining to win the match 4-3. Hagerty (Blue Springs, Neb.) finished 4-1 and third overall in his weight class.
Matt Baker (197 lb.), who is ranked fourth nationally, took home third-place with his 6-2 decision against Shane Nolan from North Carolina-Pembroke. Baker topped all Maryville wrestlers with five wins overall, and his only loss was to sixth-ranked Charles Morgan (King College) 3-2. Joey Moorhouse (157 lb.) went 3-2 and placed fourth overall. Moorhouse's effort helped him fight off the number two seed of the tournament and advance to the semifinals.
