Maryville University claimed three first-place finishes at the William Penn Open in Oskaloosa, Iowa, over the weekend.
Freshman Keenan Hagerty claimed the title in 149-pound division by pinning Jake Ekster of Missouri Valley at the 6:59 mark. A pair of Maryville wrestlers reached the finals of the 165-pound class. Senior Brett Rosedale, who was wrestling in his home state, was slotted first and freshman Dimitri Willis was placed second. The third weight class winner was junior Matt Baker who claimed the crown in the 197 division. He won by an impressive 6-0 decision over Iowa State’s Trevor Voelker.
Brandon Oshiro reached the first-place match in the 133-pound class before getting edged by Ben Cash of Iowa State, and Joey Moorhouse finished second in in the 157-division to Cornell’s Nick Loughlin. In the open 285, Morgan Denson took the third-place match in a decision over Carl Gual from Cornell.
The Saints are back in action at the University of Central Missouri’s Dinker Open Sunday, Jan. 15.
