Maryville baseball saw that No. 28 Harding proved worthy of its preseason ranking as the Bisons closed out a season-opening three-game series with a win in the finale. Harding posted an 8-0 victory over the Saints as they limited Maryville to just one hit.
The Bisons would score the only run they would need in the bottom of the first and would tack on another single tally in the second. The Saints nearly got a run back in the top of the third.
Andrew Naegeli singled to leadoff the frame and took second on
Colby White’s sac bunt.
Corey Gall had a grounder and Naegeli took third on the play. However, the Saints were unable to push him home. In the fourth, the Saints again had a runner reach scoring position but could not deliver the run.
Jared Green worked a walk and moved to third on a pick-off play gone astray before getting stranded as the Saints were kept off the scoreboard.
The Bisons padded their lead in the later innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Saints return home for their opener at Weber Field Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they host Lincoln for a 1 p.m. game.
