Maryville senior golfer Kayla Eckelkamp set a new Maryville/Subway Invitational record with a two-day total of 145 as she claimed individual medalist honors at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka, Mo. In windy conditions in west St. Louis, Eckelkamp also tied the invitational’s record for lowest round with an even-par 72, and she topped the previous two-round record at the invitational by five shots. The University of Missouri-St. Louis claimed team honors by rallying to finish with a 639 total to edge Southern Indiana by two strokes. Maryville finished in third in the team standings.

After shooting the low round Sunday with a 73, Eckelkamp surpassed that score with a 72 on the 5,917-yard course. She closed out her round in an emphatic manner. Eckelkamp holed out from the 15th fairway for a birdie to ignite a spree of three straight birdies to extinguish any late charge by the field. Junior Mycah Hudson chipped in from just off the 12th green, and she narrowly missed a top-10 finish by one shot as she posted a 166. Senior Samantha Keller posted a closing round 84, and freshman Kelly Gould fought through an injury to help the Saints post a strong team finish.

Eckelkamp was part of the All-Tournament team which also featured UMSL’s Bailey Hopper and USI’s Lindsey Carr who tied for second at 155, UMSL’s Shweta Galande was fourth at 156, and Ashford’s Brittany Boon claimed fifth at 159.
