Final Results from Washington University Invitational
Women’s golfer
Kayla Eckelkamp posted her third straight victory of the spring season as she claimed first place at the Washington University Invitational at Gateway National Links in Madison, Ill. The senior carded a final round 76 and finished with a score of 148 over the two days. Eckelkamp was tied with WU’s Hannah Buck and Drury’s Morgan Lamberson, but was declared the winner by virtue of a scorecard playoff.
The Saints did not have a full squad at the course, which played at 5,865 yards on the card, but had
Kelly Gould and
Mycah Hudson also compete for Maryville. Gould fired a second-round 80 to finish with a 167 total, and Hudson bettered her day one score with an 83 to finish at 169.
“We had a great tournament amid the adversity of having to compete individually due to illness,” head women’s golf coach Kim Hodge said. “We set some unique goals and met them both as a team and individually. This may be one of my proudest moments as the coach at Maryville. Kayla, Kelly and Mycah all represented Maryville well. We keep getting better each week and look forward to a strong finish to our spring season.”
“It was a great tournament, we were all ready and confident to go out and go low,” Eckelkamp said. “We set team goals for each day and accomplished them, which was great for us. I have played well at Gateway in the past, so I was anxious to see what I could shoot. Round one went well as I struck the ball great, and my putting was good. Round two was a rollercoaster day. I hit the ball well but my putting was not quite as sharp. My second round taught me a lot about my game, and I know there is more to learn from the round. Overall, I am excited at how I played and pulled out a victory. As a team, we are all excited to take this momentum into our next tournament in Pana, Ill.”
