Mitch Carriger hit .579 with three home runs, scored eight times and recorded seven RBIs to lead the Saints to a 4-1 record, including a four-game sweep of William Jewell. He had a .636 on-base percentage and posted a 1.158 slugging mark on 11-of-19 hitting with five extra base hits.Â

In a nonconference game against Indianapolis, Carriger doubled and had two hits in five at-bats. Against William Jewell, he had a season-high four hits, including a three-run homer, to help the Saints win the opener. He scored three runs and drove in three runs with a stolen base. In the second game Saturday, Carriger launched a two-run homer in a 9-8 win. In Sunday’s first game, he singled, walked twice and scored twice. In the WJC finale, he recorded a critical two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Saints overcome a 4-1 deficit and rally for a 5-4 win. Carriger went 3-for-4 on the day, scored twice and also doubled. He handled 13 chances in centerfield and did not commit an error over the five games.
