The Maryville wrestling team rallied to post a 22-21 victory over Ouachita Baptist, the Saints third straight dual meet victory, Friday evening in Moloney Arena. The Saints won four of the last five matches of the night to complete the big comeback.
The visiting Tigers took the first three matches of the night before
Keenan Hagerty, ranked fifth in the country at 149, recorded a 12-3 major decision to get the Saints on the scoreboard. Ouachita Baptist took the next match but at 165,
Marvio Tischhauser recorded a quick pin at the 1:28 mark to help the Saints cut the team score gap to 15-10.
Dimitri Willis posted a 9-4 win at 174 to continue the run and bring Maryville to 15-13.
However, the Saints had to forfeit the match at 184 as the Tigers went up 21-13. With two matches to go,
Matt Baker began the late push for the Saints. The second-ranked wrestler in the nation at 197, he notched Maryville’s second major decision of the night with a 20-7 victory to pull the Saints to within 21-17. Heading into the heavyweight match,
Morgan Denson knew he had to record at least four points for the Saints. Denson dominated his opponent in recording a 16-1 tech fall to complete the comeback for Maryville.
The Saints are in action again Wednesday, Feb. 13, in their final regular-season match of the season as they welcome McKendree for a 7 p.m. meeting.
