Softball ended a four-game road swing through the western side of the state with a doubleheader at Rockhurst Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. The Hawks narrowly edged the Saints in both ends of the doubleheader with a 5-4 decision in 10 innings in game one, and RU rallied for a 5-3 win in the final contest.

The Saints snared the early lead when
Krystal Rock cranked a solo home run for the game's first score. In the third inning, Rock reached on a fielder's choice and moved up a base after a wild pitch.
Danielle Williams singled through the right side of the RU infield to edge the Saints to a 2-0 advantage.
Sheridon Sprague singled and took second on a sac bunt by
Angie Ochoa.
Darby Ferguson doubled down the line in right as the Saints surged ahead 3-0. Rockhurst finally scored in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Saints pushed across another run in the top of the sixth.
Courtney Ferguson singled and moved into scoring position after a Sprague sac bunt. Ochoa's single put runners on the corners, and scored on Darby Ferguson's single for a 4-1 lead. Rockhurst cut into the deficit with two runs in the sixth setting the stage for a late rally. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks used a single and a double to forge a 4-4 tie and force extra innings. The Saints pushed Courtney Ferguson to third with one out in the eighth but were unable to get her home. However, in the 10th inning, Madison Wagner tripled to center and scored on Kelsey Dean's bunt single for the game winner.

In the second contest, the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 with three runs in the top of the first. Rock and Williams opened the game with back-to-back singles. Sprague singled to bring in the game's first run. The Saints took advantage of a Rockhurst error to tally two unearned runs for a quick 3-0 lead. The Hawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Rockhurst then scored one run in the fourth through sixth innings to slowly pull away for the win. The Saints managed to get the go-ahead run to the plate but stranded two runners to end the contest.

The Saints are now 7-18 on the season, 4-8 in the GLVC. The Hawks improve to 15-11 overall, 6-6 in the conference. Maryville hosts city-rival University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
