Quincy, Ill. – The Maryville softball team took advantage of a pair of big innings as the saints earned a sweep of Quincy on a rainy Friday afternoon at Mart Heinen Field in Quincy, Ill. The Saints scored all their runs in the fifth inning to take the first game of the day, 3-2 and then erupted for seven run runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap to defeat the Hawks 12-8.
Game One:
Quincy grabbed an early lead in the second inning as the Hawks scored twice in the home half of the frame to take a 2-0 lead. Maryville took the lead in the fifth as
Shaina Kmetz opened the inning with a single to left field. The Saints then drilled four straight hits, including a two-run single by
Courtney Klosinski to take a 3-2 advantage over the Hawks. Starting pitcher
Alyssa Callans slammed the door shut on Quincy as she forced nine straight outs to earn her seventh win of the year.

Game Two:
Maryville got things going in the top of the first inning as Livingston smashed a triple down the right field line and scored on a Martin but single to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Jaclyn Pasakarnis then moved Martin over to third and with runners on the corners, Callans hit another single to score Martin and push the score to 2-0. Maryville took advantage of an error to score another run in the inning to take a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. After Quincy tied the contest at 3-3 in the home half of the second, Maryville took the lead for good in the third as Kmetz had an RBI single to give the Saints a 4-3 lead. Maryville gained control of the game in the top of the fourth inning, as the Saints exploded for seven runs in the frame. The inning was highlighted by a two-run blast by
Samantha Hausl and a three-run bomb Klosinski that extended the lead to 11-3. After Maryville added a run in the fifth inning, the Hawks scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the advantage to 12-8. Quincy was only able to put one more runner on over the last two innings as Maryville earned the sweep
