Singles play fueled the Maryville women's tennis squad in a 4-3 win over Emporia State in action at Sunset Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

At No. 3 doubles, Ashley Dowden and Sandra Hinterberger combined for a 6-3 win. However, the Hornets claimed the top two doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Nicole Pafundi rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles match, while Clara Bascunana emerged with a 6-2, 7-6 win at the third singles position. Hinterberger claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5, while Dowden eased to a 6-3, 6-0 triumph.

Maryville improves to 4-3 and deals Emporia State its second loss as ESU slips to 5-2.
