Rolla, Mo. – After dropping a heartbreaker in the opening game to Missouri S&T,
Alyssa Callans twirled a four hit shutout to help the Maryville University softball team to a split with the Miners Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. The Saints fell to the Miners in the first game of the day 2-1 in eight innings and then used a big third inning and a great pitching performance by Callans to earn a 5-0 victory.
Game One:
The Miners struck first in the third inning with a run to go on top 1-0. The Saints battled back in the sixth as
Bri Livingston singled to open the inning and moved to second as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis drew a walk. After moving to third on a fielder's choice, Livingston scored as
Samantha Hausl grounded into another fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1. Maryville had a chance to take the lead in the eighth with runners at the corners with two outs, but the Miners forced a groundout to end the uprising. Missouri S&T won the game in their half of the eighth as they hit three singles to load the bases. They were able to push across the winning run on a passed ball to grab the win and break the Saints six-game winning streak.

Game Two:
Maryville took control of the nightcap in the third inning as
DJ Aaron-Holman and
Emily Bruin each hit RBI singles to put the Saints on top 2-0.
Taylor Shingler added to the advantage with a two-run single to center field to push the lead to 4-0 after three frames. Callans tacked on an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single to right field to extend the lead to 5-0.
