Saints Softball Ends Regular Season by Earning a Split with Missouri S&T

Rolla, Mo. – After dropping a heartbreaker in the opening game to Missouri S&T, Alyssa Callans twirled a four hit shutout to help the Maryville University softball team to a split with the Miners Sunday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. The Saints fell to the Miners in the first game of the day 2-1 in eight innings and then used a big third inning and a great pitching performance by Callans to earn a 5-0 victory.

Game One:
The Miners struck first in the third inning with a run to go on top 1-0. The Saints battled back in the sixth as Bri Livingston singled to open the inning and moved to second as Jaclyn Pasakarnis drew a walk. After moving to third on a fielder's choice, Livingston scored as Samantha Hausl grounded into another fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1. Maryville had a chance to take the lead in the eighth with runners at the corners with two outs, but the Miners forced a groundout to end the uprising. Missouri S&T won the game in their half of the eighth as they hit three singles to load the bases. They were able to push across the winning run on a passed ball to grab the win and break the Saints six-game winning streak.
