Rolla, Mo. – The Maryville University softball team exploded for 24 hits and 18 runs as the Saints swept Missouri S&T Monday afternoon at the S&T Softball Field in Rolla, Mo. Maryville scattered 11 hits in winning the opener 10-1 in five innings. The Saints offense continued to produce in the nightcap as Maryville pounded out 13 hits to claim an 8-2 victory over the Miners.
Game One:
The Saints offense come out swinging in the opener as Maryville plated six runs in the top of the first. After scoring a run on a passed ball,
Katelynn Charlton drove in a run with a single and
Caitlin Rodriguez ripped a double down the right line to drive in three runs to put the Saints on top 5-0.
Taylor Shingler added an RBI single in the inning to extend the lead to 6-0.
Maryville added two more runs in the second as
DJ Aaron-Holman hit a two-run single up the middle to push the advantage to 8-0. The Saints tacked on a run in the third as Charleton drove in her second run of the game and
Aleigha Cory lined a triple down the right field line to score another run in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-0. The Miners scratched across a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints got the final out of the inning to secure the win.

Game Two:
After a scoreless first two innings, Callans put the Saints on the scoreboard with a two-run blast to put Maryville on top 2-0. The Saints added three runs in the sixth as Shingler and
Melanie Nelson each drove in runs while Callans smashed a triple to right field to drive in her third run of the game to extend the lead to 5-0.
Maryville pushed across three more runs in the seventh as
Hannah Tolley and Rodriguez each drove in runs with doubles and Shingler added an RBI single in the frame to make the score 8-0. The Miners rallied in the bottom of the seventh with two runs, but the Saints slammed the door on the uprising to claim the doubleheader sweep.
