St. Charles, Mo. – Despite a season-high 22 saves from
Liz Bierhals, the Maryville field hockey team fell in its season finale 3-0 at Lindenwood. The freshman goalie surpassed her previous high of 13 stops at Newberry. The Saints were looking to sweep the season series from the Lions but the hosts prevailed in the return contest.

The Lions pressed forward immediately and put two quick shots on frame. Bierhals came up with two saves in the opening two minutes and six in just under four minutes. Delanie Winklemann had the first shot on goal for the Saints but the game was scoreless after 15 minutes. After another Bierhals save, the Saints had a counter attack.
Alison Tom put a shot on goal but was turned aside.

In the waning seconds before halftime, Lindenwood earned a penalty corner. Bierhals made the first save but the Lions saw a shot at the buzzer trickle across the line for a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Lions doubled their lead four minutes into the third and tacked on a third in the final minutes of the game.

The Saints finish their inaugural season with a final record of 3-11. The Lions up their mark to 8-9 this year.
