St. Louis - The Maryville women's tennis team battled top seeded Southwest Baptist but saw its season end in a 4-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal defeat at Dwight Davis Tennis Center Friday night.
 
Nicole Pafundi and 
Maria Paula Suarez won four games at No. 2 doubles but the Bearcats grabbed the team point by taking both matches. The Saints won at least one set in four of the six singles matches but SBU prevailed by taking three more singles contests to close out the match.
 
Carolina Velazquez won the first set in her match at No. 2, while 
Emily Orlove forced a third set by winning set two 6-3 in her No. 3 singles clash. 
Victoria Lisson opened her contest at No. 5 singles with a 6-4 win, while 
Maria Gouveia also took set one of her sixth singles match by a 6-1 score.
 
The Saints finish their season with a 10-7 record, their most wins since the 2018-19 campaign.
