EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Maryville softball saw its season end with a 9-5 loss to first-seeded Southern Indiana in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints loaded the bases in the top of the first inning after two runners reached on Screaming Eagle errors and an
Emersen Heron single. USI cut down a runner at home trying to score on a wild pitch, but a
Kylie Swinney single to right field brought in the first two runs of the game.

Southern Indiana responded with a pair of home runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second to open a 5-2 lead.

Maryville closed the three-run gap on an RBI single from
Emily Corona and a
Brooklyn Moore run on a wild pitch in the top of the third.
Taylor Duff knotted the game at five in the fourth, bringing in
Taylor Shingler with an RBI double to left field.

The score remained 5-5 until the bottom of the fifth when a home run from the USI starting pitcher gave USI the lead. After scoring two more in the sixth, the Screaming Eagles closed out the Saints with a 9-5 final.

With the loss, the 2022 Maryville softball season ends with a final overall record of 17-25 and a 12-16 GLVC record.
