Florieke Spa scored three minutes into overtime to give the Maryville University field hockey team a thrilling 2-1 victory at Wingate University in the 2023 season finale. Spa took a feed from
Dane Thiart and slotted home the game-winning goal for Maryville's fifth victory of the year.

The Saints earned the first penalty corner of the game but Spa had her attempt blocked. Wingate converted in the 10th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. Wingate carried the play in the second quarter but Maryville responded. Midway through the period,
Lachlan Sanders found
Calista Crocker who slotted in a goal for the second straight game of the trip.

Coming out of intermission, the Saints launched four straight shots towards the Wingate cage but were unable to break the deadlock. Maryville had another penalty corner that produced a good chance from
Delanie Winkelmann but her shot was stopped as the game remained tied at 1-1 heading into the fourth. Wingate pushed forward but
Liz Bierhals made two straight saves as the Maryville defense kept the game knotted up at 1-all. Spa had a late attempt but her shot was saved as the game moved into overtime. Wingate had the first attempt of the extra session before Spa boosted the Saints to the extra-session winner with her fourth goal of the season.

The Saints finished the season with five wins and surpassed the victory total from their inaugural campaign a year ago.
