Denver, Colo. – An historic 2023 Maryville women's lacrosse season came to an end as the Saints were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament first round by defending national champion Indianapolis in a taut 14-9 battle on the Regis University campus.
Sydney Tiemann and
Tia Sansone both recorded hat tricks to charge the offense.

UIndy sprinted out of the gate by scoring the first four goals of the contest.
Reagan Rukstad got the Saints on the scoreboard, and Tiemann followed 31 seconds later as Maryville pulled to within 4-2 at the 3:21 mark of the opening quarter. The Greyhounds stretched their advantage to 8-2 by halftime.

Tiemann struck again to open the third quarter before UIndy pulled out to a 10-3 advantage. The Saints roared back into the contest with five consecutive goals.
Helen Bae started the burst, and Sansone came off the bench to put a charge into the offense. Rukstad tallied with nine ticks left in the third as the Saints pulled to 10-6.

Sansone fired in another off a feed from Rukstad, and Tiemann worked through the UIndy defense as her goal chopped the UIndy lead down to 10-8 with 12:25 to play. The Greyhounds scored to make it 11-8, but Sansone answered right back and completed her hat trick to make it 11-9 with 10:13 remaining. Both defenses took over as neither team scored for nearly five minutes. However, UIndy broke through for a crucial goal with 5:31 to play. The Saints extended their defense with a full ride but were unable to close the gap, and UIndy sealed the win with two late scores.
