EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Maryville University softball had their Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament run cut one game short of the championship by Lewis University on Sunday. The Saints fell 4-1 to the Flyers after making it to the tournament's final day for the first time in program history.
Lewis Recap
Lewis took an early 2-0 lead with a run in the second on a Meghan Bontrager double in the second and a Jayln Powell RBI single in the third. The Saints called in

In the top of the fourth, Heron singled to start the inning and pinch runner
Callie Harrison stole second in the next at-bat. Now with two outs,

In the fifth, the Saints threatened to tie the game when
Carly Nolde singled to lead off the frame.
Melanie Nelson reached base later on a fielder's choice and stole second to get in scoring position. The Flyers worked out with a flyout to left field to tighten the grip on a 2-1 lead.
After adding two more in the bottom of the fifth, Lewis got the next three Maryville hitters out in order to send it to the seventh. In the final frame, Touchette singled to lead off the inning, and pinch runner
