Mansfield, Pa. – The Maryville field hockey team scored the opening goal of the game but Frostburg State rallied for a 3-1 decision Saturday morning on the Mansfield University campus.

FSU had two early chances but
Liz Bierhals stopped both chances.
Florieke Spa had a shot turned aside but the Maryville offense reset but
Dane Thiart fired in her first score of the season for a 1-0 lead at the 11:22 mark. The Saints carried the lead into the second but Frostburg State pulled even early in the quarter as the game moved to halftime tied at 1-1.

Both teams had early penalty corners in the third but Frostburg State edged ahead in the quarter for a 2-1 margin. The Saints looked to draw even in the fourth and had three early chances that narrowly missed the mark. FSU held on and sealed the victory with a score in the waning moments to close out the contest. The Saints earned eight penalty corners on the day to close out their trip through the Keystone State.

The Saints now stand at 4-3 on the season, while Frostburg State improves to 5-3. Maryville is next in action when they return home to host Sewanee Saturday, Sept. 30, in an 11 a.m. start at the Maryville Athletic Complex.
