Rindge, N.H. – In its second straight game in the Granite State, the Maryville field hockey team flew past Franklin Pierce 4-1 Friday.
Consuelo Torres Moore scored two goals, while
Tia Sansone notched a goal and an assist.
Jojo Cox made four saves in the cage. The Saints dominated play and had 17 shots on goal versus just seven by Franklin Pierce.
Â
How it Happened:
The Ravens took the early lead in the first quarter but the Saints equalized when
Delanie Winkelmann scored midway through the second for a 1-1 tie. Despite being a player down, the Saints took the lead in the final minute before halftime.
Tia Sansone fired in a shot from the right side with 55 seconds left as Maryville went up 2-1 at intermission.
Â
Cox made a save midway through the third quarter to keep the Saints on top. Maryville earned three penalty corners and blasted five shots towards the FPU cage but was stopped. However, with 0.7 seconds left in the quarter, Torres Moore bolted into the FPU scoring area and slotted in a shot just before the buzzer for a crucial late goal and a 3-1 advantage.
Â
Another save by Cox in the fourth kept the Ravens from creeping closer until the Saints sealed the win with a goal in the final minute. Torres Moore deflected in a shot after passes by
Skyler Turiello and
Calista Crocker for the final tally.
Dorothy Fife came up with two defensive saves to aid the Maryville backline.
