Softball’s Season Comes to an End at GLVC Tournament

EAST PEORIA, Ill – The Maryville softball team saw its season end at the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament. The Saints knocked off the No. 2-seeded Lewis Flyers 4-2 in the first game of the day, but suffered a late-inning comeback to the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars to fall 4-3 in extras.

The Saints send off a group of three seniors in Emily Corona, Isabella Garcia and Chayse Ramey. As a trio they helped lead the Saints to a No. 3-seed in the GLVC this season. Corona left it all out on the diamond, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs with a home run. Ramey was electric in game one, giving up zero earned runs for the win.

GAME 1 | Maryville 4, Lewis 2
The Saints, and more particularly, Corona got going early, ripping a single that scored Marley Williamson in the second inning. Cailyn Gdowski added two more, blasting one out in the third for the big lead.

After a couple cold offensive evenings, all while Ramey was cooking in the circle, an error by the Flyers gifted the Dawgs a run to make it 4-0.

Lewis attempted a late comeback in the rain-soaked EastSide Centre complex, but the Saints held on for the 4-2 win.

GAME 2 | UIS 4, Maryville 3
Much like game one of the day, the Saints scored first, using a Corona big fly to jump to a 2-0 lead. Cora Boyle's RBI double moved the lead to 3-0 in the fourth.

The Prairie Stars mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, using a bases-clearing triple to force extras. UIS proceeded to walk it off in the eighth, after a lengthy rain delay, to advance to Friday play.
