PRINCETON, N.J. – Two first-period goals and a 35-save performance from
Bruno Bruveris gave the Maryville men's ice hockey team the answer it needed Saturday, as the Saints rallied past Princeton 2-1 to split their weekend trip against Ivy League opponents.
Â
After falling 3-0 at Yale on Friday, Maryville erased an early deficit at Hobey Baker Rink behind goals from
Adam Cavallin and
Anthony Hall. Bruveris and the Saints' defense took over from there, keeping the Tigers scoreless over the final two periods to secure the victory.
Â
Hall finished Saturday with a goal and an assist, while Maryville blocked 23 shots to help protect its one-goal advantage.
Â
The Saints now sit 5-1 on the season, having won three of their four games against NCAA DI opposition so far, sweeping St. Lawrence Oct. 2-3.

Rihards Simanovics collecting the assists.
Â

Â
Bruveris made 15 saves in the opening period before turning aside three shots in a scoreless second.
Â
Princeton pushed hard over the final 20 minutes, outshooting Maryville 17-0, but Bruveris stopped every attempt. The Saints withstood nearly three minutes with the Tigers' net empty to close out the win.

COACHES BOX
Head Coach John Hogan on the Saints bounce back against Ivy League foes..
"I'm incredibly proud of how our guys responded after Friday night against Yale. I didn't think we played poorly, but we weren't quite at the standard of who we're trying to become. Saturday, against a very good Princeton team, I thought we got much closer to that standard, because we had to come away with the result we wanted"
Â
Hogan on the team performance against Princeton…
"
Bruno Bruveris was outstanding again with 33 saves, but beyond his performance, I thought our guys did as good a job as they have all season of buying into the type of hockey we need to play to be successful at this level. It wasn't always pretty, but our commitment and willingness to play for one another were tremendous. "
Â
On the opportunity to play Yale and Princeton…
"To have the opportunity to compete against two historic Ivy League programs like Yale and Princeton is pretty special for our young program, and we certainly appreciate the hospitality both institutions showed us."
