ST. LOUIS – Fueled by a hat trick by
Consuelo Torres Moore, the Maryville field hockey team recorded a 4-3 triumph over Marian (Wis.) on Senior Day. The four goals are a season best for the Saints, and Eva Kreese tallied her first career goal, which proved to be the game winner.
Â
How it Happened:
Torres Moore put the Saints on top just 1:43 into the game off a feed from
Cloey Turiello for a quick 1-0 lead. Torres Moore struck again in the eighth minute when
Denise Van der Spuy fed her on the right side and the ball was deflected in to double the Maryville margin at 2-0.
Â
Marian pulled one score back but Torres Moore answered just under two minutes later off another assist from Van der Spuy for her third straight goal for the Saints. The hat trick is the first by a Maryville player since
Tia Sansone scored three times at Marian Oct. 4, 2025. Freshman
Eva Kriese pushed the Saints advantage to 4-1 as she tallied her first career goal off an assist from Turiello. The Sabres scored in the second as the Saints took a 4-2 lead into halftime.
Â
The Saints turned up the defense in the third quarter as neither team was able to generate a strong scoring opportunity. Marian scored early in the fourth quarter to trim its deficit to 4-3. Â The Saints looked to expand their lead and earned five straight penalty corners. Maryville put five shots on goal but each was saved. Marian pressed forward looking for the equalizer. With just over five minutes to play, the Sabres notched six straight penalty corners. Marian took three shots over the span but the Saints defense did not allow a goal as Maryville held on for its second win of the season.
Senior
Jojo Cox started and made eight saves in goal for the Saints, while fellow senior
Liz Hind came up with six stops.
