No. 6 Saints Use Big Second Quarter to Charge Past No. 25 UAH 21-9 in Season Opener

ST. LOUIS  – The No. 6 Maryville women's lacrosse team scored nine straight goals in the second quarter to key a 21-9 victory over No. 25 Alabama Huntsville. Paige Murphy made her Saints debut with six goals and an assist, while Natalie Tomljenovic finished with five goals and one assist. Devyn Dimovitz and Helen Bae both recorded a pair of goals and five and four assists, respectively. Gianna Guzek made four saves in the net to pick up the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tomljenovic and Elle Kondraros tallied the first two goals before the Chargers tied the score at 2-2 by the end of the first quarter. Murphy converted a free-position shot that sparked the run of nine consecutive goals. Tomljenovic completed her hat trick and Mady Richert scored her first for the Saints. Murphy sandwiched a pair of scores around one by Kylie Pettus. Bae found the back of the net for her first before Murphy notched her fourth goal of the burst to make it 11-2. UAH finally scored but Tomljenovic scored and Murphy tallied at the halftime buzzer to make it 13-3.
 
Pettus finished her hat trick in the third quarter and Bae added her second as the Saints led 16-6 heading into the final quarter. The Chargers scored two early in the final frame but the Saints closed out the contest with a 5-0 run.
