No. 6 Saints Score Seven Straight Goals to Roll Past No. 14 Regis 17-9

DENVER, COLO.  – The No. 6 Maryville women's lacrosse team used an explosive 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter and posted a 17-9 victory at No. 14 Regis University. The Maryville defense kept Regis scoreless for more than 14 minutes during a stretch of seven straight goals to key the triumph. Helen Bae led the Saints with four goals, two assists and grabbed 13 draw controls, tied for the fourth most in a game in program history. Six other players scored two goals apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints grabbed the early momentum by scoring the first four goals of the game. Kylie Pettus scored the opener on a player-up opportunity before Paige Murphy converted a free-position shot. Emmery Clark also drew a free-position attempt and found the back of the net. Helen Bae made it 4-0 with 5:24 left in the opening quarter. Regis pulled one back before the end of the quarter.

Natalie Tomljenovic pushed the Saints advantage to 5-1 with a tally early in the second. The Rangers bounced back into the game with three straight goals. Bae tallied a goal just before halftime as the Saints took a 6-4 lead into the break.

Regis stuck early in the third to cut the deficit to one but the Saints answered with two straight. Tomljenovic scored her second of the game, and Murphy fired in another free-position shot for an 8-5 lead midway through the quarter. Regis pulled back the two scores and made it a one-goal game. Devyn Dimovitz struck for her first goal of the contest to give the Saints a 9-7 edge heading into the final 15 minutes.

The Saints took control of the game by opening the fourth with six straight scores. With the Saints a player up, Clark completed her brace with a goal just 12 seconds into the quarter. Bae was fouled inside the circle and recorded her hat trick with a free-position attempt. She won the ensuing draw control and rifled a pass to Mady Richert for a 12-7 advantage just four seconds later. Gaby Quinones notched her first goal of the game. Bae once again snared the ensuing draw which led to a goal by Dimovitz. The Saints continued to play make-it-take-it with yet another draw control as Richert struck again for a 15-7 lead with 9:41 left to play.

Regis finally broke through with six minutes remaining but Pettus and Bae scored goals 14 seconds apart to make it 17-8 and put the game away. Gianna Guzek made eight saves in goal to notch the win.
