Saints Drop GLVC Set to Miners

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville softball team dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader to Missouri S&T on Saturday at the Maryville Athletics Complex, falling 7-2 in game one and 7-5 in game two.

GAME 1 | Missouri S&T 7, Maryville 2
Missouri S&T used one big swing to take control early and never looked back in the opener.

After two scoreless innings, the Miners erupted for four runs in the third, highlighted by a grand slam that broke the game open. They added another in the fourth and tacked on two more in the seventh to extend the lead.

Maryville answered with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Kaitlyn Wagner delivered an RBI single in the third, while Jenna Kosnoff followed with an RBI knock in the fourth to make it 5-2.

Kosnoff led the Saints at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, accounting for nearly half of Maryville's eight hits.

In the circle, Nora Johnson took the loss, allowing five runs over 3.1 innings, while Aubrey Scieszinski provided relief with 3.2 innings and four strikeouts.

GAME 2 | Missouri S&T 7, Maryville 5
Game two followed a similar script, with Missouri S&T jumping out early before holding off a late Maryville push.

The Saints struck first on an RBI double from Laila Ruiz in the opening inning, but the Miners responded with a five-run second inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a pair of Maryville errors to seize momentum.

Missouri S&T added two more in the third to stretch the lead to 7-1.

Maryville chipped away throughout the game. Kosnoff drove in three runs, including a two-run double in the sixth that pulled the Saints within 7-4. Leah Perales added an RBI single in the seventh to make it a two-run game, but the rally fell short.
