ST. LOUIS – The Maryville softball split the final day of the Maryville Softball Invite, avenging a loss to Hillsdale with a 9-6 win, before falling to Purdue Northwest 8-7.
Â
GAME 1 | Maryville 9, Hillsdale 6
A big four spot in the bottom of the fourth was the tone setter for the Saints as they stormed to a 7-0 lead after three frames.
Addison Koth and
Kaitlyn Wagner both grabbed RBIs in the first, Koth's on another home run.
Â
Jenna Kosnoff snagged an RBI sacrifice fly in the second, with Hillsdale granting the Saints another two runs in the third on a E6.
Â
Hillsdale made it interesting, scoring six runs, three in the fifth and seventh, but a two spot in the fifth by Maryville off a Kosnoff single kept the Chargers at bay.
Â
GAME 2 | Purdue Northwest 8, Maryville 7
Heading into the seventh, the Pride led 3-2, with the two Saints runs coming in the third when
Laila Ruiz doubled to centerfield. The Pride then exploded for five in the top of the seventh, using a pair of singles and a double to make it 8-3.
Â
Maryville threatened, scoring four in the bottom half of the inning. Koth scored one on a double, while
Emily Erb plated two on a RBI single into center. A Wagner double would score Erb, bringing it within one, but that was as close the Saints got to the comeback, falling short.
