Maryville University junior goalie Gianna Guzek was selected as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Defensive Player of the Week for games through May 17, 2026. This is the second time this season she has garnered the IWLCA award, and she is the third different Saint to earn the honor.
 
Guzek headlined the Saints defense as Maryville defeated Indianapolis 11-10 to win the program's first Midwest Regional title and a berth into the Final Four. She came up with 11 saves, including two in the final five seconds of the game to preserve the thrilling and historic victory. Guzek also corralled three ground balls to aid the defense.
 
The Saints take on East Stroudsburg in the NCAA National Semifinals Thursday, May 21, at 6:30 pm CT / 7:30 pm ET in Rochester, N.Y., as Maryville chases its first national championship.
