Biography

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2018-19: Tyler had an outstanding year on and off the mat, a true leader by example. He only knows how to do it one way: give everything he has and even more. He had a tremendous year, qualifying for the National Tournament and earning All-American honors with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Three of his matches at the National Tournament were won by fall, making him one of the finalists for the Most Falls trophy at the National Tournament. He led the team with 35 wins for the season. He was awarded the team’s Most Improved Award, the Outstanding Redshirt Junior Award, the Most Falls Award (12), the 30-match winner Award with 35 wins, the Jim “Bongo” Bayly Iron Discipline Warrior Award, the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award for the second time, and the team’s Most Dominant Award. Tyler earned his third varsity letter this season. He was selected to 1st Team All-Conference by the GLVC coaches and was awarded the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. He received the Iron Man Award for competing in every competition during the season. He is a Dean’s List student, carrying a 3.767 cumulative GPA. He was selected as an NWCA Scholar All-American for the third year in a row. He had a big part in the team winning the NWCA Team Academic Championship for the second year in a row. Tyler was 2nd at the Jim Koch Open, 2nd at the Midwest Classic, 1st at the Pat “Flash” Flanagan Open, 3rd at the NCAA Super Region IV qualifier, and 4th at the NCAA Division II National Tournament. He went 13-1 in dual meet competition. He earned the Wrestler of the Week and OOOSSS Award ten times during the season. Tyler certainly makes our Dojo a “Better Place.”

2017-18: Tyler gives his best in everything he does. He has already achieved success on the mat and in the classroom but the Best is Yet to Come for him. He is a leader by example and a Positive Force for the Team. He started the season with a dominating performance at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open winning the 174-pound Championship. For his efforts he was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Week. Tyler was injured at the Jim Koch Open and missed 6 weeks of competition. He returned in time to record 9 dual wins for the Saints. Tyler ignited the Saints to a 22-21 dual win versus Lindenwood University when he pinned Sam Pennington in :53 for an important six-point win. Tyler is majoring in mathematics and secondary education. He is an Academic Dean’s List stuent with a 4.0 GPA in the fall semester. Tyler was named to the NWCA All-Academic Team for the second time and earns the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award for his work in the classroom. Tyler earns his second Varsity Letter Award and the Rebounding Power Award. Tyler picks up Jim “Bongo” Bayly Iron Discipline Award and GRIT Award. He was named the Wrestler of the Week three times and the OOOSSS Award Winner two times this season.

2016-17: Tyler finished his varsity Redshirt Freshman year with a 20-14 record at 174lbs. He finished sixth at the Doane Open, second at the Missouri Valley Invitational with a 4-1 record and seventh at the Greyhound Open. He went 5-3 in dual competition with big wins in the Indianapolis and Lindenwood duals to lead the team to dual meet victories. He is a Dean’s List student with a 3.55 GPA. He was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Second Team for his performance on the mat and in the classroom. He received the team’s Outstanding Freshman Award, Most Major Decisions Award, 20 Match Winner Award, Dr. Lombardi Saint Award and Varsity Letter Award. He was named the Wrestler of the Week six times and the OOOSSS Award Winner four times.

2015-16: Transferred in from North Dakota State at semester. While at NDSU he placed Second at the Moorhead State Dragon Open with a 3-1 record. He placed Second at the Bison Open and had a 3-1 record. He also placed Second at the Grand View Open with a 3-1 record. Capped off the season wrestling unattached at the Missouri Valley Open where he finished Third with a 3-1 record. Captured the team’s Wrestler of the Week Award for that performance. He finished the season with a 12-4 overall record wrestling unattached.

High School: Tyler was a sixth-place finisher as a sophomore in the state of Nebraska, two times a state qualifier in Illinois and a fourth-place finisher as a senior.
Tyler is also a fourth-place finisher at the Pre-Season Nationals tournament and has been voted team captain for all four years of high school.
