Biography

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2016-17: James completed a very successful season, his best season as a Saint, with All-American Honors at the NCAA division II National Championships finishing seventh at 149lbs. He qualified for the National Tournament with a second place finish at the Super Regional Tournament. He finished third at the Kaufman/Brand Open then lost some mat time recovering from an injury, he rebounded to go 10-3 in duals with big dual wins against McKendree and Lindenwood to lead the team to dual meet victories. He finished the season a 20 match winner with a 22-8 record. He was selected GLVC All-Conference First Team after going 5-1 in the GLVC duals. He was selected as the GLVC Wrestler of the Week once during the season. He was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Second Team for his performance on the mat and in the classroom. He earned the team’s Outstanding Junior Award, Most Improved Award, Rebounding Power Award, 20 Match Winner Award, Iron Discipline Award, Dr. Lombardi Saint Award and Ryan Kaufman Award. He gained Wrestler of the Week honors seven times and OOOSSS Award winner five times.

2015-16: A two year Letter winner and a starter last year. He received the Dr. Mark Lombardi Saint Award. Wrestled in four duals including The National Duals and in four tournaments for the Saints. He earned his second Letter as a member of the Maryville wrestling program. He placed Fifth in the Wisconsin Open and had a 4-2 record. He placed Fourth at the Northern Iowa Open with a 3-2 record. His win over Travis Shaffer of Pitt-Johnstown by injury default at National Duals helped the team to a Fourth place finish. His overall record was 11-9 and he was selected Wrestler of the Week four times.

2014-15: Newcomer to wrestling Saints. Transfer from Missouri. Went 27-16 with a 4-5 record in duals. Had a 1-3 mark at National Duals. Placed sixth at Kaufman/Brand. Went 3-3 at Midwest Classic good for eighth place. Won the Championship at William Penn Open. Also captured first place at Missouri Valley Invitational going 5-0. Just missed going to National Tournament by placing fourth but lost challenge match for true fourth and did not qualify. His points did help Saints win their first ever Super Regional. Recorded seven falls during the season. James is a part of a solid group of Saint returners next season. He will aim even higher for Maryville next season. Captured the team’s Wrestler of the Week seven times and OOOSSS Award four times.

High School: James transferred to Maryville after an excellent redshirt year at the University of Missouri and high school career at Fort Zumwalt West. He is a quality addition to the Dojo. James went 17-9 while competing as a redshirt during his first year at the University of Missouri. James placed 6th at the UCM Open, 2nd at the Kaufman/Brand, and won a tournament title at the Joe Parisi Open Fresh/Soph division. James recorded a 190-30 high school record while becoming a four time Missouri State High School Wrestling Championships Place Finisher. James finished fourth as a Freshman and Sophomore, sixth as a Junior and was a runner-up his Senior season while leading Fort Zumwalt West to a Missouri State Championship fourth place team finish. James is also a two-time Missouri High School Freestyle State Champion. He was named to four Missouri National Teams and two Missouri National Dual Teams. He finished his high school wrestling career at Fort Zumwalt West with four varsity letters.
