ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2021-22: Joey had an outstanding year on and off the mat. With his “Work Power”, dedication and commitment he is positioning himself to accomplish much more. He is doing all the extra work and the right stuff to do that. He is a leader by example on and off the mat for us. Joey was Maryville Outstanding Wrestler, Most Improved, Outstanding Redshirt Junior, Most Major Decisions, Most Dominate, 30 Match Winner, “Nate Rod” Award, 3X NWCA Scholar All-American, Dr. Lombardi Saint Award, Iron Man Award, GLVC All-Conference, NCAA DII National Qualifier, 3X Varsity Letter Award, DII Athletic Directors Association Academic, 4X GLVC All-Academic, and NSCA Strength and Conditioning All American Athlete of the Year. Joey is a “Positive Force” for us. He motivates and inspires his Teammates and Coaches with his Example.
2020-21(COVID Shortened Season): Joey is a big part of the Maryville Wrestling OOOSSS Men and earned the following awards. Most Improved, NWCA Scholar All-American, 3X Dr. Lombard Saint Award, ”Bongo” Ultimate Utility Wrestler, Staying Power Award, 2X Varsity Letter Award, DII Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, 3X GLVC Academic All-Conference. “The Marshall” is a “Leader By Example” who has done the work to have an impact in DII Wrestling. Joey has consistent “Work Power” day in and day out, on the mat and in the classroom. Joey is a “Positive Force” that makes our dojo a “Better Place.”
2019-20: Joey was able to get Valuable experience at the Varsity level. That experience combined with his "Work Power", Dedication and Commitment means the "Best is Yet to Come" for him. He finished his RS-Freshman campaign with a 13-9 record, and a 3-2 dual record. Finished 3rd at the Pat “Flash” Flanagan Open and 3rd at the Greyhound Open. Joey earned the Wrestler of the Week and OOOSSS Award honors four times. Joey earned the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award (2x), the Outstanding RS-Freshman Award, the RS-Freshman Scholar Award (3.630 GPA), the Most Improved Award, the NWCA Scholar All-American Award, the Rebounding Power Award, was selected for the Div. II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, and was elected to the Geico GLVC Team Academic All-Conference for the second time. "The Marshall" is a Leader and a "Positive Force" on our Team.
2018-19: Joey’s exceptional work power, discipline, and character will make him a future star in NCAA Division II wrestling. Competing unattached, “The Marshall”
compiled a 15-12 record at 184 lbs, placing 2nd at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open, 4th at Lindenwood Open, 6th at Jim Koch Wisconsin Open, 3rd at Pat “Flash”
Flanagan Open, 6th at Greyhound Open, and 2nd at the Missouri Valley Open. Joey’s commitment to excellence earned him the Jim “Bongo” Bayly Iron Discipline Warrior Award, the Outstanding Redshirt Award, and the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award. For his performances, Joey earned the Wrestler of the Week and OOOSSS Award six times. Joey will contend for a spot in the starting line-up and is expected to compete at 184/197 lbs next year.
