Maryville University Athletics

Entering his ninth season leading Maryville Hockey, John Hogan serves as Assistant Athletic Director for Hockey and Head Coach of the University's NCAA Division I Men's Hockey team. 

Since becoming the inaugural head coach in 2018, Hogan has transformed Maryville Hockey from a single startup ACHA Division II team into one of the nation's most comprehensive collegiate hockey departments. Today, the program consists of six teams and more than 170 student-athletes, culminating with Maryville's transition to NCAA Division I men's hockey in 2026.

In addition to serving as head coach, Hogan provides strategic leadership for the University's hockey department, overseeing recruiting, staffing, fundraising, facilities, operations, and the long-term vision for one of the fastest-growing collegiate hockey programs in the country.

Prior to Maryville's transition to Division I, Hogan established the Saints as one of the premier programs in ACHA hockey. His Men's Division I teams earned six consecutive ACHA National Tournament appearances, advanced to back-to-back national quarterfinals, and consistently competed among the nation's elite. His leadership also expanded Maryville's hockey footprint with the addition of men's and women's teams across multiple ACHA divisions while creating a culture centered on competitive excellence, academic success, and student-athlete development.

Beyond on-ice success, Hogan has helped position Maryville as an innovator in the evolving landscape of collegiate hockey. He has been instrumental in developing major corporate partnerships, expanding hockey-specific facilities, creating experiential learning opportunities for students, and building a sustainable model that supports both NCAA Division I and ACHA hockey under one unified vision.

Prior to Maryville, Hogan served as an assistant coach at the University of Arizona after his playing career with the Wildcats. As a player, he helped lead Arizona to the 2016 ACHA National Tournament, including scoring the game-winning goal in the program's first national tournament victory in more than a decade.

A St. Louis native and graduate of Chaminade College Preparatory School, Hogan earned his master's degree in finance from the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management.
