The Maryville University Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation announced Maggie Young as the inaugural head coach of the women’s field hockey program in April 2021. Since launching the program, Young has led Maryville Field Hockey through its formative years, building a competitive NCAA Division II program while establishing a culture centered on leadership, development, academic success, and community engagement.
Young came to Maryville after serving as the head coach of the girls’ field hockey team at Whitfield School. During her tenure, she guided Whitfield to the Sweet 16 of the Missouri State Tournament 10 times in 11 seasons and recorded more than 100 career victories as a high school coach.
Young was named the St. Louis Field Hockey Association Coach of the Year in 2018. Her Whitfield girls’ lacrosse squad also earned the “Grow the Game – Spirit of the Game Award” from the Missouri State Lacrosse Association in 2018.
Prior to Whitfield, Young served as the head coach of the varsity field hockey program at Holland Hall High School in Tulsa, Okla. In 2008, she guided the program to the Southwest Preparatory Conference Division II Championship, followed by a runner-up finish in 2009. During her time in Oklahoma, Young also served as a USA Field Hockey Futures Site Director, coach, and selector for the National Futures Tournament.
Young previously worked as an assistant field hockey coach at MICDS, assisting mentor Lynn Mittler to the 2007 State Championship game. Off the field, she served as President of the St. Louis Field Hockey Association for eight years and was the Region 5 representative for the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).

Site Director and lead coach for USA Field Hockey Nexus St. Louis - helping identify and develop elite athletes within the region for the Olympic Development Pathway.

A mom of three daughters and a native of St Louis, Young graduated from Villa Duchesne High School before earning her bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 2007 in Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science and a Licensure in Adapted Physical Education.
Young is also the daughter of Kathleen (Hannigan) Durbin, a 1964 Maryville University graduate, and niece of twin sisters Mary (Hannigan) Fox and Ellen (Hannigan) Ribaudo, both 1960 Maryville University graduates.
