Maryville University director of athletics Lonnie Folks announced Vince Bingham as the head coach of the Saints cross country and track and field teams as of June 2018. He comes to Maryville after spending the last two years as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. Bingham has coached three national championship teams in his career.
“Vince is one of the premier track and field coaches in this region,” Folks said. “A view of his credentials will show that he has been successful at a high level. I look forward to getting him on board and the impact that he will have within our campus community overall and, specifically, with our running programs.”
Bingham has prior head coaching experience as he guided the program at Missouri Baptist from 2003 through 2006. He coached the Spartans to the 2006 NAIA national championships at both the indoor and outdoor meets and was selected the NAIA National Track & Field Coach of the Year Award. Bingham’s teams set eight NAIA national records at the 2006 indoor meet and saw 18 athletes earn All-American honors. At the 2006 outdoor championship, Missouri Baptist claimed eight titles. In his tenure at MBU, Bingham's student-athletes earned 78 All-American honors. Off the track, Missouri Baptist had five NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Previously, Bingham served as head coach at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan., for two seasons He mentored two NJCAA National Champions, seven indoor All-American honors and 11 individual All-Americans at the outdoor national championships.
Bingham has extensive experience and worked as an assistant coach at Division I schools Kansas, Missouri, Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois, as well as Division II Lincoln and twice at Lindenwood. In 1998, Bingham was an assistant on Lindenwood's men's indoor national championship squad, the school's first national championship.
Throughout his career, Bingham has coached seven Olympians in Nickesha Anderson (Jamaica - 2008), Ibrahim Bashir (Kuwait - 2004), Brittany Borman (United States – 2012 & 2016), Nikki Holder (Canada – 2012 & 2012) and Randy Lewis (Grenada - 2004 & 2008), Lanece Clark (Bahamas 2016) 4x400, John Ampoham (Ghana 2016) Javelin.
Bingham currently serves the Ozark Youth Association as USATF Executive Board Member, USATF Youth Vice Chair, AAU Youth Chair. He was inducted into the Missouri High School Cross Country/Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014. Bingham coached in the high school ranks at Festus, Pattonville, Hillsboro and won a Class 2A state championship at Crystal City.
Bingham earned his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Baptist and is in the process of earning his master’s from Lindenwood.
