Maryville University Athletics

Peter Hantack

Peter Hantack begins his third season as head women’s tennis coach for the Saints. Hantack, who graduated from Fort Zumwalt South High School and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, came to the Saints from LeTourneau University in Texas.

“Peter is a St. Louis native who is extremely well connected to the area tennis scene both at the high school and college level,” director of athletics Marcus Manning said. “We wanted to identify a coach who could put our student-athletes in the best possible position to be successful, and we found that person in Peter. I’m excited Peter has joined our team.”

“I am excited for the opportunity Marcus Manning has given me to lead the Maryville Saints tennis programs,” Hantack said. “I am a St. Louis native and want to do all I can to positively lead Maryville tennis in the area. I believe we have great student-athletes here at Maryville, and we can be competitive in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, a league I know well both as a player and a coach. There are so many attractive things about Maryville as a school, and I look forward to helping develop young men and women on and off the tennis court.”

Hantack spent one season as LeTourneau head men's and women's tennis coach. In his one year there, he increased the Yellowjacket’s win total from six to 13. Prior to LeTourneau, Hantack served two years as the top assistant coach for Northwest Missouri State University. He helped steer the Bearcats to back-to-back Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships in 2010 and 2011 and coached the MIAA Player of the Year. NMSU was ranked as high as No. 17, and Hantack was named the 2011 ITA South Central Assistant Coach of the Year.

Hantack's experience also includes three summer sessions as the head pro at the Konsberg Tennisklubb in Konsberg, Norway. As a professional player in Norway, he was ranked as high as No. 86 despite playing in only four tournaments. Hantack has worked as an assistant pro at The Bridges, a Top 50 US tennis resort, and is still the tennis pro at Frontenac Racquet Club.

Hantack played collegiate tennis at UMSL and still holds the school record for career singles victories with 64.
