ABOUT RYAN
Ryan joined the Maryville Wrestling staff after completing his eligibility and education at Maryville University in the spring of 2016. Ryan graduated from Maryville University with a dual degree in English and Marketing. He is one of the wrestlers whom we built our wrestling program on when we recruited him our first year at Maryville. Ryan is a great addition to the coaching staff and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.
2015-16: A two-time National Qualifier and a two-time All-American he completed an outstanding career for the Maryville Saints Wrestling program. He finished his career with 90 wins. He put two 30 win seasons back to back, 32 wins his Junior year and 33 wins his Senior year. He had an outstanding Senior year. He won the Kaufman/Brand Open going 4-0. He was 5-1 and Third at the Lindenwood Open, 3-0 and First at the Wisconsin Open and 4-0 and First at the Midwest Classic helping the team win its second consecutive Midwest Classic Championship. He went 10-1 in duals helping the team to a Fourth place finish at the National Duals and seven dual wins during the season. His Second place finish at the Super Regional helped the team win its second consecutive Regional Championship. He followed that with an outstanding performance at the National Tournament finishing Fourth and becoming a two-time All-American. His performance helped the team to its third consecutive top five finish. He is a consistent leader in bonus point matches and team points scored for the team. He finished the season with a 33-5 record and a 10-1 dual meet record. He has been selected Wrestler of the Week 32 times during his career and the OOOSSS Award winner 20 times.
2014-15: Enjoyed a stellar junior season finishing seventh at the National Tournament in his first NCAA appearance. Put together a 32-11 record (10-2 in duals). Was runner-up at the Super Regional Tournament to qualify for Nationals. Won the William Penn Open. Placed third at the Missouri Open. Went 4-2 to finish fifth at Midwest Classic to help Saints capture the team championship. Won three matches at Dr. Mark Lombardi Maryville Duals to help Maryville go 2-1. Was 3-1 at National Duals. Had five falls and tech falls during the season. Named Maryville Wrestler of the Week 11 times during the season. Earned teams OOOSSS Award seven times throughout the year. Goes into his final season with a 57-39 mark.
2013-14: A two year starter who redshirted this season, has made dramatic improvement during the season, moving up from 184 to 197, he placed in 4 of 5 open tournaments winning his last tournament and becoming one of the top wrestlers in the Dojo, 4th at the UCM Open, 3rd at the Kaufman/Brand, 3rd at the Wm. Penn, 1st at the NMIN Open.
2012-13: Went 13-14 (0-3 in duals) wrestling at 184lbs placed 3rd at William Penn Open. Going 4-1 was Maryville Wrestler of the Week at the William Penn Open; also won team’s OOOSSS Award at William Penn Open voted as one of Maryville’s Rebounding Power Award winner competed at NCAA Regionals going 1-2
2011-12: Finished 12-15, going 2-3 in duals, took fifth place at Lindenwood Open, placed seventh at MVC Open, Wrestler of the Week (4X), OOOSSS Award Winner for performance in the Missouri Valley (Dual), Lettered in first season.
High School: Won state championship (2010-11) placed second at state championships twice (2008-09,2009-10). Four-time conference champion. Team three-time conference champion, four-time district champion. Member of St. Louis All-Star wrestling team freestyle and Greco state champion. St. Clair athlete of the year (2010-11), two-time Fall brawl runner-up, two-time pre-season National runner-up, House of Reps Outstanding Student Athlete Award, Senior class executive president.
