Biography

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2016-17: Derrick earned the Varsity starting position at 165lbs. He finished the season with a 16-16 overall record. He placed sixth at the Kaufman/Brand Open and fourth at the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open. He went 2-2 in the Parisi Open, Greyhound Open and in the Super Regional Tournament. He was a GLVC All-Conference second Team selection and was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Team (second team) for the second time for his performance on the mat and in the classroom. He received the team’s Sophomore Scholar Award. He received the Freshman Scholar Award the previous season. He is a Dean’s List (3.5 GPA or above) Student and earned the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award. He is a two-time Varsity Letter Award winner. He was named the Wrestler of the Week three times and the OOOSSS Award Winner once.

2015-16: A NWCA All-Academic Team selection, received The Outstanding Scholar and Outstanding Freshman Award, the Dr. Mark Lombardi Saint and the Most Improved awards. He made his first appearance of his Maryville varsity career this season at the Midwest Classic wrestling 157 pounds. He also wrestled in five other tournaments for the Saints. He placed Third at the Maryville Kaufman/Brand Open Amateur and had a 4-1 record. Wrestled in The Joe Parisi Open (Black Division) and DNP with a 3-2 record. Placed Sixth at the Wisconsin Open with a 2-0 record. He had a 2-2 record at the Midwest Classic which helped the team to a First place finish. Placed Third at the Missouri Valley Open and had a 4-1 record. He finished the season with a 16-8 record. He captured the team’s Wrestler of the Week Award three times and the OOOSSS Award once.

2014-15: Freshman Redshirt this season. Wrestled unattached going 9-7. Was sixth at Lindenwood and finished second at Missouri Valley Open. Gained valuable experience and should improve with mat time. Captured the teams Wrestler of the Week Award twice and the OOOSSS Award for his performance at the Missouri Valley College Open.

High School: Derrick was a three sport athlete and letterman at Whitfield High School. Derrick is a state champions who is constantly improving and brings that attitude to the Dojo. Derrick recorded a 73-29 career record while becoming a two-time state placer for Whitfield High School. Derrick placed 4th as a Junior before claiming a Missouri State High School Championship as a senior. Derrick was a member of the Disney Duals All-Star team as a Junior and Senior. He also placed 3rd and 4th at the Missouri High School State Freestyle Championships and 4th in the Greco-Roman State Championships. Derrick led Whitfield to a Missouri State High School Wrestling Team Championship as a Junior and then a 2nd place team finish as a Senior. Derrick was also a three sport athlete, competing in wrestling, baseball and cross country. He was a four year letter winner in wrestling and a two year letter award winner in baseball and cross country.
