Biography

John is the son of John and Janaha Anderson. John wrestled at Mid Buchanan High School in Faucett, Missouri.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
2018-19: John had a great start to the season, competing in four tournaments and going 12-6. “Big John” opened the season with a 6th place finish at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open where he battled Nick Foster of McKendree before falling 6-4. Foster would finish the season as a 174 lbs National Finalist. Highlighted by a 1st place finish at the Jim Koch Open, John finished the day with a 5-0 record defeating nationally ranked Poloncic (Augustana) 1-0, Hooker by fall in 2:04, and the University of Northern Iowa’s Yant in sudden victory 2-1. John was named the GLVC Wrestler of the Week and was recognized as the Maryville Saint Male Athlete of the Week for his win at the Jim Koch Open. Two weeks after his impressive performance at the Jim Koch Open,John suffered a season ending injury while competing at the Midwest Classic. He had posted two impressive wins to get to the quarterfinals where he was injured before falling 5-2. John was on the verge of entering the national rankings and becoming a force at 174 lbs before his injury. John won the Wrestler of the Week and OOOSSS Award three times during the season. He is a Dean’s List student, carrying a 3.803 cumulative GPA. He is a NWCA Scholar All-American for the second time. He wins his second Varsity Letter Award and the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award while picking up the Staying Power Award and the Jim “Bongo” Bayly Iron Discipline Warrior Award. When John gets fully recovered from his injury, he will have a big impact in DII Wrestling. He is “Positive Force” on our team.

2017-18: John is Dedicated and Committed to being the best he can be in everything he does. He has the “right stuff”to have an impact in Division II Wrestling. He is another one of our leaders by example. He started the season out as the 165-pound starter and finished the season competing at 174 and 197 pounds. Competing in 3 weight classes earns John the Ultimate Utility Wrestler Award. John had an 18-11 record on the season placing in 3 of the 4 open tournaments that he competed in. Competing in the Jim Koch Open, John went 4-2 and placed 5th. He followed that performance with a 5th place finish at the Pat “Flash” Flanagan Open and 7th place at the Missouri Valley Invite. In dual meets John went 4-4 while wrestling at 165 and 197 pounds. John picks up his 1st Varsity Letter Award. He was selected to the NWCA All-Academic Team and received the Dr. Lombardi Saint Award for his outstanding work in the classroom. He is an Academic Dean’s List student. John receives the Rebounding Power Award, Jim “Bongo” Bayly Iron Discipline Award and GRIT Award this year. John earned the Wrestler of the Week Award four times.

2016-17: John went 8-5 wrestling unattached in 3 open tournaments. He had 2 falls and 2 major decisions on the season. John went 4-2 and earned a fourth place finish at the Wisconsin/Koch Open. He placed third going 3-1 in the Doane open, winning his third place match by a pin in just 22 seconds over David Kelly of Barton County, which is one of the fastest pins of the season for the wrestling Saints. John finished the season going 1-2 at the Indianapolis Greyhound Open. He is one of the academic leaders for the freshman class, winning Maryville’s Redshirt Scholar Award, twice named Maryville’s Wrestler of the Week. John should make a big impact for the Saints in 2017-18.
