Carly Shisler began her tenure as a Maryville assistant women’s lacrosse coach for the 2022-23 academic year. She came to the Saints after serving as the coach for the True Lacrosse Illinois State Teams Coach in 2021-22. Shisler has played an integral part of the elite success the Saints have enjoyed over her first four years at Maryville.
Shisler helped the Saints to unprecedented her first year as the 2023 team posted a 17-3 record and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. For her efforts, Shisler and head coach Melissa Gyllenborg were voted the IWLCA Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year. She coached as the Saints surpassed the previous records with an 18-2 record, capped by the first NCAA Tournament victory with a 16-9 win over Indianapolis. In 2025, Shisler aided the squad as Maryville set school records with a 19-2 record, a unbeaten 7-0 mark in GLVC play and the school's first GLVC Tournament title. She again helped the Saints to another NCAA Tourney win.
The 2026 season saw the Saints advance to the National Championship game before dropping a narrow 9-7 decision to No. 1 Florida Southern. Maryville earned its fourth straight NCAA Tournament bid and defeated Indianapolis to claim its first Midwest Regional title. The Saints upset No. 2 seed East Stroudsburg 15-11 to reach the DII title game. For the second time in her Maryville tenure, Shisler and head coach Melissa Gyllenborg were voted the IWLCA Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year for their achievements during the 2026 year.
Shisler was an assistant coach at McKendree from 2019 through the 2021 season. She helped the Bearcats reach double-digit wins in the two fully completed seasons of 2019 and 2021. McKendree reached the GLIAC Tournament finals in 2019 and qualified for the GLVC Tourney in 2021. Shisler was the 410 West Head High School from 2019 to 2021 and served as the coach for 410 West Youth SLYLA. She has stints as the True Lacrosse Assistant U14 Lacrosse Coach (2015) and as New Wave Assistant U14 Lacrosse Coach (2016-2018)
A standout player at Grand Valley State University, Shisler was a three-year starter and served as team captain her senior season. She helped the Lakers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and was a member of three GLIAC regular season championships and three postseason tournament GLIAC crown. Shisler was the 2019 GLIAC Midfielder of the Year, named to the IWLCA Division II All-Star Team and first-team All-Region. She also garnered GLIAC First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Conference Team honors as well as earning the GLIAC Commissioner’s Award and a three-time Academic All-Excellence honors.
