Mark Abney brings more than two decades of collegiate hockey experience to Maryville University as Director of Hockey Strategy & Operations and Video Coach.
Abney spent more than 20 years with Lindenwood University Hockey, helping build the men’s program from its inception and playing an integral role in its growth from the ACHA to NCAA Division I. He was part of three ACHA Division I national championships and later served as Lindenwood’s Director of Operations and Video Coach during its transition to NCAA Division I.
At Maryville, Abney will oversee hockey strategy, program operations and video analysis while serving as the NCAA Division I team’s video coach. His previous experience building and scaling a collegiate hockey program will be invaluable as Maryville establishes its own NCAA Division I foundation.
“Mark is going to be a true architect of what we build here,” Head Coach John Hogan said. “There aren’t many people who have actually gone through this process before, understand what it takes to build something sustainable and believe as strongly as he does in St. Louis hockey. His knowledge and value can be underappreciated because so much of what he does happens behind the scenes, but that certainly won’t be the case at Maryville. We are going to lean on him heavily as we build this program.”
Abney also brings a deep appreciation for ACHA hockey, an important quality at Maryville as the ACHA remains a core part of the program’s identity and foundation. His understanding of both the ACHA and NCAA Division I landscapes gives Maryville a valuable perspective as the Saints enter their next era.
