Mike Haston

Mike Haston enters his fifth season as head coach of the Maryville University men’s volleyball program and his 19th year coaching at the NCAA level. He has led the Saints since the program’s inception at the NCAA Division I level in 2022 and continues to build one of the Midwest’s fastest-growing men’s volleyball programs.
 
During the 2025 season, Haston guided Maryville to a 19–9 record and a runner-up finish at the IVA Conference Tournament. Under his leadership, the Saints have accumulated 70 total wins since the program’s launch. Across his tenure, Maryville has produced 10 All-Conference selections, including two First Team honorees, earned 11 Player of the Week awards and received four AVCA Team Academic Awards, highlighting success both on the court and in the classroom.
 
Prior to becoming the inaugural head coach of the men’s volleyball program, Haston spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Maryville women’s volleyball team at the NCAA Division II level. He previously served as head men’s volleyball coach at Fontbonne University beginning in 2013, concluding his tenure as the program’s all-time winningest coach with a 51–29 record over his final three seasons. Haston also worked as an assistant coach at Fontbonne from 2007 to 2013.
 
Haston brings extensive experience at the high school and club levels. He served five years as the varsity head coach at Fox High School in Arnold, Missouri, and coached with St. Louis High Performance Volleyball.
 
A St. Louis native, Haston was a standout player at Parkway North High School, helping lead the program to back-to-back Missouri State Championships in 2001 and 2002. He continued his playing career at the University of Tennessee, competing in club volleyball from 2003 to 2007, and was inducted into the UT Club Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2018.
 
Haston earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in special education from Webster University. He is USAV IMPACT certified, holds a USA Volleyball CAP Level 2 certification, and has coached at volleyball camps nationwide, including Colorado State, as well as with the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program.
