In the final men’s soccer game of the season, the Maryville Saints dropped a 4-0 decision at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday evening in North St. Louis.
At the 17:47 mark, the Tritons took the lead when Matt Burrus tapped in a shot following a scramble after an UMSL free kick on the right side of the Maryville penalty area. UMSL doubled its lead in the 33rd minute when Luc Wells scored from a sharp angle along the Maryville goal line to take a 2-0 margin at halftime.
The Saints had two early scoring chances in the first five minutes of the second half on two free kicks but neither found the mark. Midway through the half,
Alex Brown’s rising shot that would have put the Saints on the scoreboard just missed wide. However, Tyler Collico scored on a strong individual move down the right side as the Tritons increased their lead. In the final 15 minutes, Brown and
Ryan Wisdom had shots blocked and deflect off the post as the Saints were unable to find the back of the net before the Tritons closed out the scoring.
The Tritons improve to 10-6-1, 9-5-1 in the league. The Saints close out the 2012 campaign with a 3-15 overall record, 3-12 in the GLVC.
