THIS WEEK: After spending Thanksgiving in Hilo, Hawai’i, the Maryville men’s basketball team plays two straight home games. Lincoln comes to town Monday, Nov. 26, for a 7 p.m. game, and Trevecca Nazarene plays at Moloney Arena Friday, Nov. 30, in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
ABOUT LINCOLN: The Blue Tigers are 1-5 but their victory came against Great Lakes Valley Conference foe McKendree. Cedric Ridle leads Lincoln with 17.2 ppg and 6.5 rpg. Charles Cole adds 14 ppg, and Shakir Preston checks in with 10 ppg and has distributed 29 assists on the season.
ABOUT TREVECCA NAZARENE: The Trojans have started the year 1-6. Maliek Daniels tops the team with 12.4 ppg and adds 4.9 rpg, while Marquise Rudolph averages 10.6 ppg and has 22 assists so far in the year.
MORE ON MARYVILLE: The Saints have started the season well and are 4-1.
Asa Toney leads the team with 14.2 ppg and 27 assists.
Armon Provo is second on the squad with a 12.6 scoring average and adds five rpg.
Gerald Shaw is at 12.2 ppg and 4.8 rpg. Head coach Kevin Carroll is in his third year at Maryville and has compiled a 24-34 overall record.
FRESH FACES: The Saints have bolstered their roster with six new players, including three freshmen, to the squad this season. Also rejoining the team is
Darrin Young Jr. who missed the 2011-12 season due to a knee injury.
LAST WEEK
The Saints enjoyed a 2-1 outing at the University of Hawai’i-Hilo Naniloa Volcanoes Resort Thanksgiving Tournament. The Saints downed the host Vulcans 78-70 to start the tourney last Monday. Maryville let a second-half lead slip away in a 54-50 loss to Montana State-Billings Tuesday, but bounced back Wednesday with a 70-58 victory over Western New Mexico.

LAST SEASON: The Saints nearly doubled their win total from the previous year and posted a 13-14 overall record, 6-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Maryville qualified for the GLVC Tournament before falling to eventual champion Southern Indiana. Last year, the Saints averaged 62.7 ppg on 47.2 percent shooting, 36.8 percent from 3-point range, 69.2 percent from the free-throw line. MU gave up 63.1 ppg and held its opponents to 43.1 percent shooting from the field.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Saints begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play Wednesday, Dec. 5, at cross-town rival Missouri-St. Louis. Maryville hosts Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday, Dec. 8, in a 3 p.m. game.
