Women's Basketball Faces Lincoln

THIS WEEK
The Maryville women’s basketball team (4-3, 1-0 GLVC), the reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, looks to build on its three-game winning streak Saturday, Dec. 15, when the Saints host Lincoln in a 1 p.m. game at Moloney Arena.

ABOUT LINCOLN
The Blue Tigers are 5-3 and have impressive wins over Great Lakes Valley Conference members Quincy and McKendree. Freddie Simms and Arriana Walker lead Lincoln in scoring at 14.9 ppg and 14.8 ppg, respectively. In addition, the pair both shoots over 80 percent from the free-throw line. Dahlia Booker adds 10.6 ppg, while Alicia Johnson grabs 7.8 rpg.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Saints opened GLVC play with a 73-64 victory at Missouri-St. Louis last Wednesday. Brittnye McSparron led the Saints with 19 points, while Abby Duethman finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

MORE ON MARYVILLE
The Saints return their top 11 players from a squad that posted a 19-12 overall mark, 11-7 in the league. Senior forward Abby Duethman is nearly averaging a double-double with 15.5 ppg and is tied for third in the GLVC with 9.2 rpg. #Brittnye McSparron# is second on the team with 10.7 ppg, and GLVC Freshman of the Year and GLVC Tournament MVP sophomore guard Shelby Miller has hit 12 3-pointers and is averaging 9.7 ppg The Saints are second in the GLVC in scoring defense at 51.3 ppg.
 
FRESH FACES
The Saints have added two veterans to the mix this season. Joining the team are Division I transfers Kayla Person and Brittnye McSparron. The duo comes to Maryville from Drake University and both are senior guards.

CLIMBING THE SCORING CHART
Senior forward Abby Duethman has moved into second place on the Saints all-time scoring list with 1,223 points. Topping the scoring chart is Heather Toma with 1,329 points.
 
CLEANING THE GLASS
Abby Duethman has moved into seventh place on the all-time rebounding list with 480. She can become just the fourth Saint to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds in a career. The only other Saints to reach those milestones are Julie Kellogg, Kim Lesley and Carrie Snyder.
 
GOING TO THE POLLS
In the preseason Division II Bulletin top 25 poll, the Saints were ranked No. 19. Maryville also received 38 votes in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches’ preseason poll. The last time the Saints were ranked in any poll was week 13 of the 2005-06 season in the D3hoops.com poll when it was ranked No. 19.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Saints are off for the holidays and do not play again until they voyage down to the Sunshine state to take on Florida Southern Sunday, Dec, 30. Maryville then continues GLVC play with a two-game road trip to Kentucky Wesleyan Jan. 3, 2013, and Southern Indiana Jan. 5, 2013.
