Gus Reinitz notched two goals and
Zach Bavol recorded the game winner and an assist as Maryville ran past Kentucky Wesleyan in Great Lakes Valley Conference play in Owensboro, Ky., Friday night.
Alex Brown, who had two assists on the evening, fed Bavol at the 26:33 mark to provide all the offense would need in the first half. Reinitz struck in the 41st minute as the Saints doubled their lead heading into the break. In the first minute after halftime, Reinitz added his second straight goal when Bavol and Brown strung together two passes for a 3-0 cushion.
Matt Bearley closed out the scoring with a strike in the 62nd minute of action off a
JT File feed.
The Saints controlled the run of the play and had 12 shots on goal to just one for KWC. Maryville also earned four corners and did not surrender a single corner kick to the home team.
James Hohenstein kept a clean sheet for the Saints who improved to 2-4 overall, 2-1 in the GLVC. The Panthers fall to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the conference. The Saints are back in action Sunday at Southern Indiana.
