No. 8 Rockhurst Downs Saints Men's Soccer Squad

Box Score Playing its fourth nationally ranked team of the season, the Maryville men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-0 decision at No. 8 Rockhurst Friday night in Kansas City.

The Saints had an early chance when Gus Reinitz had a shot in the 18th minute of play. The Hawks took the lead on a Maryville own goal in the 25th minute. The Saints defense was attempting to clear the Rockhurst attack but the ball found its way into the Maryville goal.

The Hawks doubled their lead early in the second half when Sean Verbanic tallied in the 50th minute. Reinitz nearly pulled one back in the next minute of play but his shot was blocked by the Rockhurst defense. Bogdan Atanasov had two shots in the final minutes of the game but the Saints were kept off the scoreboard as they were both misfired.

The Saints slip to 1-9 overall, 1-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks improve to 9-1-1 and are unbeaten at 8-0-1 in the league. Maryville returns to the pitch Sunday at William Jewell.
