Ryan Schlick, the Maryville men's soccer team fell 3-1 to visiting Southern Indiana Friday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Â
Corey Fundenberger, who had a hand in all three USI scores, put the Screaming Eagles ahead in the 14th minute of play after a long free kick restart. Early in the second half, the Saints nearly got on the board when Schlick hit a curving shot around the defense but USI's keeper came up with the save. Southern Indiana doubled its lead when Rush Dugger scored off a feed from Fundenberger six minutes after the break. Fundenberger tacked on another goal at the 62:50 mark. The Saints drew one score back when
Nick Doherty pushed the ball up the right side of the field, and Schlick ran onto the pass and pushed the shot wide of the USI goalie and into the right of the net. The Saints pushed for another score in the final 15 minutes but were unable to trim their deficit any further.
Josh Richter made six saves to keep the Saints within striking distance.
