Box Score Missouri S&T boxscore in PDF

Lance Kohler blasted in a shot just over three minutes into the game, and the Maryville men's soccer team made the tally stand in a 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over visiting Missouri S&T. The win is the first on the season for the Saints.

Kory Clawson settled the ball on the left side of the field and pushed the ball up the touchline. Kohler collected the ball, continued up and cut towards the middle of the field. He made one move inside a defender and slotted the ball into the far right side of the Missouri S&T net at the 3:17 mark of the opening half. The goal was Kohler's second score of the season. The Miners nearly drew level in the 10th minute when David Zdvorak hit a low drive that forced a save from Saints keeper Josh Richter. Maryville nearly doubled its lead in the 21stst minute when Alex Brown's attempt hit the left post. Two minutes later, Kohler almost scored again when he stretched out to volley a shot, but his aerial attempt just sailed high.

The Miners had another strong scoring chance six minutes after halftime when Diego Robayo put an attempt on goal, but Richter denied the chance to keep the Saints ahead. Missouri S&T's last good scoring chance came in the 66th minute when Alex Reifschneider's shot nicked the post and went wide.

The Saints carried the play throughout the afternoon and outshot the Miners 8-2. S&T goalie Matt Jackson made several nice saves to keep the Miners close, but Richter had two saves to earn the clean sheet for the Saints.

Maryville improves to 1-7 overall, 1-6 in the league. The Miners drop to 4-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 in the GLVC. The Saints are back in action Sunday when No. 4 ranked Drury comes to town for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
